Dr. Rick Hays - Chief Information Security Officer and Cybersecurity Compliance Manager
Dr. Rick Hays is the Chief Information Security Officer and Cybersecurity Compliance Manager for Sierra Nevada Global Logistics. In this role, he creates policies and conducts assessments to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements regarding data systems, data security, and personnel. Additionally, he is developing artificial intelligence (AI) policies that align with the new AI requirements from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Risk Management Framework (RMF).
Dr. Hays serves on the Board for Cybersecurity at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and mentors cybersecurity students from both UNR and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Formerly, Dr. Hays was the Cyber State Coordinator (CSC) with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) for the State of Nevada. In this role, he provided direct coordination, outreach, and regional support to protect the cyber components essential to the sustainability, preparedness, and protection of the Nation’s Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources (CIKR) and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments.
A 35-year Air Force veteran, Dr. Hays has served as the base Cyber Security Manager at the Air National Guard Readiness Center, Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where he led cybersecurity efforts for 98 Air National Guard wings and bases across the United States. He also worked as a Cyber Security Program Manager at the Joint Forces Headquarters Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DoDIN) at Fort Meade, Maryland, where he led three branches in coordination with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM), and the National Security Agency (NSA). Additionally, he performed cybersecurity assessments for the Air Force’s Special Access Program (SAP) at the Pentagon.
